Seat gaskets in mixproof valves are arranged in either an axial or radial configuration. Axial gaskets as in the Type D mixproof valve provide metal-to-metal contact of the valve seat and disc with sealing forces running axially through the center line of the valve stem.
With pre-defined gasket compression, axial compressed gaskets are extremely durable and reliable and suffer less frictional resistance and wear when compared with radial gaskets.
A characteristic of an axial sealed mixproof valve is that it 'spits' a small amount of any contents of the lower pipe line through the cavity when activated.
