Mixproof Valves for the Food & Beverage Industries

GEA Tuchenhagen mixproof valves provide safe, reliable seperation of incompatible liquids between intersecting pipe lines.

All are available in IPS and OD pipe sizes from OD 1" through to IPS 6" and with actuators to hold against 145 psi. The range includes balanced valves to withstand pressure surges, mixproof valves for horizontal mounting as well as general mixproof valves for all applications.

Based on the principle of three single seat valves in a double block and bleed arrangement, the mixproof valve comprises an upper and lower valve seat and a cavity between them which provides a leak path to atmosphere.

In the event of gasket failure at either seat, pressurized liquid leaks into the cavity and will drain freely to atmosphere via the cavity without danger of breeching the seat gasket of the intersecting pipe line, preventing contamination of its contents.

Function
Mixproof valves are normally closed until activated. Air pressure is applied to the actuator which lifts the lower seat to come into contact with the lower side of the upper seat. A gasket between these two faces isolates the vent cavity preventing the loss of the contents through the cavity. The lower seat and upper seat then continue to stroke upwards allowing the transfer of the contents from one pipe line into the other.

Cavity Cleaning
As an option, a CIP supply tube can be attached to the valve stem allowing cleaning solution to clean the cavity between upper and lower seats with a sprayball affect. The CIP drains via the cavity.

Seat Lifters
As an option, the mixproof valve can be provided with a seat lift actuator. This actuator allows independent lifting of either the upper or lower seats whilst the adjacent pipe line is being cleaned. The CIP washes across the lifted seat and drains via the cavity.
